Miami makes it easy to recycle on campus — simply place your recyclables in the blue single-stream recycle bins located next to the gray waste bins in most buildings. After collection and transport to Rumpke Waste & Recycling’s material recovery center in St. Bernard, those items are sorted, processed, and then sold to make new products.

Robotic arms, hands-on sorting, optical sorting, magnets, and other methods are used to separate the items. They are then baled and sold to regional manufacturers to turn these recyclables into new end products. Eighty percent of Rumpke’s material goes to Ohio companies.Video created by Regionals e-Campus for use in the Sustainability at Miami education module.
